A POINTLESS CONNECTION was originally established in 1987 using a Commodore
VIC20 Computer and a very SIMPLE BBS program running at 300BPS (WOW was that
ever FAST!) <G>. When we started, we were known as THE DARKROOM BBS.
We switched to VBBS in March of 1990 (as well as to a 386DX40 PC) and we ran
that setup until December of 1994 when we "upgraded" to Wildcat on a new
486DX2\66 machine with 2 1.2G hard drives, 2 240MB Hard Cards, 2 CD-Roms, a
Syquest 88MB External Removable drive and a 24K modem. Now, we run the same
basic setup but with 2 USR 28.8's and the old reliable 24K Zoom modem.
Our emphasis has always been on Communications and Photography as well as
attempting to be a "user's" Sysop ie: always willing to help. We attempt to
bring Professionalism to the BBS community and, I believe the tone of our
BBS reflects that.
We were a "Serious" BBS for the serious BBS user. We had a minimum age of
16 and, even tho we did have over 100 online games, did not really cater to
the "younger" crowd. The average age of our user's is 32 1/2 years old and
the BBS reflects the wants of our user's. We hope you enjoyed it.
After reading the above, you might wonder WHY????? Well, it's simple. Not
enough time to run a "full blown" BBS the way I wanted to. Therefore, on
May 28, 1996, THE DARKROOM BBS went offline for the final time and
A POINTLESS CONNECTION was born using TERMINAT, TERMINAT POINT SYSTEM and
HOST, on a custom built Cx486DLC computer with 20MB Ram, SVGA Monitor,
2 420 Western Digital Hard Drives, Panasonic CD's and US Robotics 28.8 V34
Modems. Our software consists of Terminate v4.10, Intermail v2.29k, Allfix
v4.41, Interecho v1.19, DOS 6.2, QEMM 7.04, DESQView 2.63 and BGFax v1.60,
all of which is registered to our system.
Additionally, as we continue to work with Bo on improving Terminate and HOST,
we've added the ability to have BBS Door games online and currently have 28
doors available via HOST. You can also read/reply to messages while in HOST
by using the Reader Door.
Next to come will be a complete 2-way mailer with File Request ability, all
as a part of Terminate's HOST Mini-BBS (The mailer feature is presently being
tested in the Beta phase on our other system).
